HOCKEY
The Huskies secured five of a possible six WCHA points at Alabama Huntsville over the weekend. Tech won 5-2 Friday and the two teams tied 4-4 Saturday with the Huskies taking the extra point in the ninth round of the shootout. Reid Sturos had two goals Friday while Matt Roy scored a pair Saturday. Mitch Reinke buried both nights while Thomas Beretta, Gavin Gould, and Jake Lucchini also found the back of the net. Angus Redmond had 15 saves Friday and 19 Saturday. Chris Gerrie was the only skater, out of 18, to score in the shootout. The Huskies have never lost to the Chargers, improving to 12-0-2 all-time with a 2-0-2 mark this season. The Black and Gold also remained unbeaten in its last nine WCHA games. Tech is 16-9-7 overall and 13-3-6-3 in the WCHA and stays on the road this weekend for a matchup of the top two WCHA teams at Bemidji State. The Beavers lead the Huskies by four points in the league standings and the two teams split their series in Houghton in December.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Huskies swept their home weekend at the SDC Gym to extend their winning streak to four games. They defeated Grand Valley State 49-48 after a last second shot by Morgan Anderson who finished with 22 points. Brenna Heise was the other Husky in double figures with 15. The Black and Gold scored a 70-56 win over Ferris State Saturday. Anderson led with 18 while Elizabeth Kelliher (16) and Lindsay Winter (11) also hit double digits. The Huskies are 14-4 overall and 10-3 in the GLIAC and play three games this week, Monday at Northern Michigan, Thursday at Northwood, and Saturday at Lake Superior State. Monday's game will be televised live on Fox UP, beginning at 6 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Tech split its home weekend, defeating Grand Valley State 72-64 Thursday before falling 77-76 to Ferris State Saturday. Kyle Monroe (19), Bryan Heath (16), Tommy Lucca (14), and Jordan Chartier (11) hit double figures against the Lakers. Chartier poured in a career-high 28 Saturday, including shooting 7-for-9 from three, and Monroe added 23, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 12-point deficit. Tech (11-9, 9-4 GLIAC) plays Monday at NMU, Thursday at Northwood, and Saturday at LSSU. Monday's 8 p.m. game will be televised live on Fox UP.

NORDIC SKIING
The Nordic ski teams competed at the Duluth Hilltop Invite over the weekend. Gaspard Cuenot won for the second weekend in a row with a time of 24:24 in the 10K freestyle Saturday. Tom Bye (4th), and Tomi Mikkonen (9th) were also in the top 10. Carolyn Lucca led women's team in 11th in Saturday's 5K race. Lucca led a group of four Huskies who skied Sunday in another freestyle event after course complications cancelled the classic races. She finished third in her hometown, while Anna Kubek placed ninth. The Huskies host the CCSA Distance Championships at the Tech Trails this weekend.
