Robert G. Lovell
Inducted October 30, 1993

Talk about cross training. Robert Lovell, class of 1950, earned six varisty letters in four different sports during his career at Michigan Tech; three in track and one each in the then-brand-new varsity sports of alpine skiing, swimming, and tennis.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, he earned a degree in metallurgical engineering and also was busy tending to a newborn son.

Lovell went on to a career first as a metallurgist and sales engineer with Reynolds Metals, then in economic development as Vice President of Continental Bank in Chicago.

His family has a long association with MTU. In fact, three generations of Lovells have graduated from Michigan Tech. His father, Endicott Lovell, graduated in 1922 and was President of Calumet and Hecla Copper Company. His son, Bob, Jr., graduated in 1970.

Lovell is retired and continues today as a trustee of the famed MacNaughton Cup, a pure silver cup presented annually to the regular season champion of the WCHA.
