Al "Olle" Karlander
Inducted October 20, 1990

Described often as one of the finest forwards to play at Michigan Tech, Al "Olle" Karlander won three letters playing hockey for the Huskies from 1966-69.

His junior season, Karlander earned second-team All-WCHA honors and was named the team's most valuable player.

As a senior, he helped the Huskies to a 21-9-2 overall record and a second place finish at the NCAA Championships. His post-season honors were numerous as he gained both first-team All-America and All-WCHA honors while also reaping NCAA second-team All-Tournament mention and team most valuable player recognition.

Although hockey demaned a great deal of time, Al also served a president of the Varsity Club and was a member of the Blue Key Honor Fraternity.

Karlander was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the NHL Ameteur Draft and was 17th overall pick. He also played for the New England Whalers and the Indianapolis Racers for a few seasons. Al also coached the Cincinatti Stingers during their 1979-80 season.
